Fenske Lake Campground

The Fenske Lake Campground outside of Ely Mn is one of the most well known,and considered one of the best campgrounds in Minnesota.

If a person is really wanting to explore the area up this way,and really wants a good taste of some wilderness.The Campground at Fenske Lake is the place for you.

It's not only a great place to camp,it's the best place to camp no matter if you're camping solo,or bringing the kids along.

So if you have children,this also a great family campground.

With really nice bathrooms loacted through out the campground,to a really nice fishing dock.The Fenske Lake Campground has it all.
I almost left out they have a small swimming beach too.

Great parking,and if you get there at the right time,some really great camping spots to choose from.

I don't think they have electric hook ups.The idea was being tossed around a year,or two back.But I think they scrapped the idea.

But anyways,they got some really nice bathrooms,and a well to get some great tatsting water..AND GARBAGE DISPOSAL.

One thing I hate at camp,is garbage.You don't have to worry about burning any of that there.Each campsite has garbage cans that are emptied daily,a nice big picnic table,and great parking next to your camp.

Some of the campsites are more secluded than others,and some you have to walk to if you want that added privacy.Not a far walk,like 10-20 yards at most.

This campground makes a great base station while you're in the Ely area.

Plenty of exploring to do,plenty of lakes in the area,and town is not that far off..About a half hour drive.

Some use this place as a fishing headquarters,because this fish the surrounding lakes.As I said,it's the ultimate base station no matter who you are,or what type of adventures you may be seek.

The Fenske Lake Campgound is the best spot to go camping in Minnesota as far as I'm concerned.

We hope to be spending the summer at this one,and so look foward to meeting alot of you campers.

Personal notes I'd add to this article,is Burntside Lake is just a rock throw away from here,and a couple of my other favorite Lakes.

Big Lake is just down the road,and Slim Lake is another great fishing lake in the area.

Good berry picking,grouse hunting,and the wildlife.Chance are you could see a moose as well,hanging around in this neck of the woods up here.

It's a great base station as I said to set up camp,and whether you're a solo adventurer,or looking for some good family camping up this way.The Fenske Lake Campground in Ely is place for you to set up camp.

Fenske Lake Campground

Exiting Ely travel east on Highway 169 North.This is if you're heading out on Sheridan St,and the Super will be on your left side.Head out of town about a mile,then turn left on County Road 88 and drive another couple of miles.Take a right on the Echo Trail and it'll be about 7 miles up the road.Some real beautiful scenery as well.

But take a look at the map above,or go to google maps.It'll show you easily where it is,and assure you that you won't get lost looking for the campground.

You can't go wrong with one of the best campgrounds in Ely.

Ely Mn Liquor Stores

When it comes to the Ely Mn Liquor Stores for a campers thirst,I always head over to Beaver's Liquor on Sheridan Street.

They have the coldest beer in town,and the most friendly of service that even a rained out camper walks out of there with a smile after doing business.

Cold beer is half the fun up this way,and I assure you that Beavers Liquor in Ely won't break the bank either when it comes to affordability.

So if you're looking for a Ely Mn Liquor Store that will fit into your budget up this way,then definately stop in there and pick up a cold beverage.

They have a great wine selection too.

They also have the beer in plastic containers for the BWCA.

Give them a call ahead of time,and they will make sure to have in stock what wets your tongue.

This is truely the best liquor store in Ely Minnesota.

Camping In Ely Mn

Many of us have fond memories of camping in Ely Mn.

We've been there,done that,and also have few years under our belt spending quality time in the woods up that way in a small cabin with no running water,and a wood stove for heat.Thankfully,we had electricity,else we would have really lost it..hahahaha :)

Now that we're older (early 40's),we find ourself missing the beauty,the loons,and the early morning smell of the forest that also happened to make a cup of coffee taste so dam good in the morning.

Now in my younger days,I'd spend months in the woods camping in one of the best tents ever made,which is a Eureka of course,and had along a Eureka Screen Tent as well,that we used as a camp headquarters.A shelter we could all use,and conversate in when the weather was foul.We'd just tarp the screen tent as needed for wind,and or wind/rain protection.

We could cook our meals on our coleman campstoves without being affected by the bad weather.

Better yet,we also had a dry place to drink our beer incase the weather turned sour.

Not all our trips were so well prepared like in our later years in life.

As with most us campers,we all learn by trial & error over the years,and a smart camper makes the trip all that much better by going by what he/she learned on the previous trip,and what to bring along on the next trip for a more comfortable of stay in the woods,and what not to bring.

As we mentioned above,we're a couple in our early 40's now,and we did our time suffering in the woods,and have graduated from the old hotdogs & beans routine,to down right gourmet camp cooking.

We bring camping chairs now,instead of putting the wear and tear on the camping coolers.Perhaps worse yet is some of the bait buckets we've ruined in our younger years,but anyways that's another story.

When a person is camping in Ely Minnesota.You have to be prepared,and when one is not,it can make one of the most beautiful places in Minnesota become the most unhospitable places on Earth.

Here you'll get to read our 2013 spring,summer,and fall camping trip that we plan on doing at the Fenske Lake Campground.

We're going to pick out a site that's best for us,and camp the whole summer away sharing some of the adventures we have up that way,and will also share the type of camping gear we use,plus needful information about the town of Ely.

Now we're to old to suffer it in a tent all summer,so we hope to buy a good generator.That way we can bring a TV,a Laptop,and a small powered AC.

Yes,of course we hope to be able to afford a used popup camper too.

We don't have a penny to our name presently,but we're going to make this happen.

We are not going to suffer while doing so,and if you get a chuckle that we're bringing everything from the kitchen sink,to a small TV..Go ahead and laugh,we did our time roughing it up there,and have tales & adventures of our younger days to prove it.

Our trip may not be your typical Ely Mn Camping adventure,but none the less,it'll be a camping adventure that will last us a life time :)

Ely's Original Mn Camping Couple

We'll be sharing our 2013 camping adventure this year broadcasting from one of Ely's most beautiful campgrounds "Fenske Lake".

We'll be discussing the Ely Mn Weather on a daily basis,and also throw in the local fishing reports that we hear on the local radio stations up this way.

We'll include the best places to shop in Ely to save a buck,and also the best places to get your live bait up this way.

We'll pretty much stick to the grocery stores,bait shops,and of course the liquor stores.

We'll talk on some of the best places to camp in Ely Mn,post valuable information such as the hospital in town here,to the auto repair shops incase you have a break down.

So if you've never been up this way before,we'll do our best to arm you with the best information before you even pull into town here,or perhaps just drive straight through to your camping spot.

We'll talk some on the lakes up this way,camping tips,down to the berry picking when the blueberries are ready to be plucked.

We'll also throw in information that's valuable to a family.Such as places the kids love to visit,such as the International Wolf Center to the American Bear Center.

Yep,the Ely Bear Center has been a huge hit since they set up shop here,and it's not only an exciting place to visit,but also an educational experience as well.

We can't leave out the Dorthy Molter Museum.It's a fun little tour,and they really do have a fantastic rootbeer there you can enjoy after the tour :)

So we'll throw in alot of information here,other than us camping at Fenske Lake Campgrounds all summer.

Odd stories,tales,and maybe some B.S. as well,but having a chuckle on one's face makes camping all that much more enjoyable.

We'll also enjoy talking with others on the camping gear they recommend,and if it passes the test.

We'll talk some on the BWCA as well,such as the rules,and latest fire conditions.
